Isis Selmikaitis

I am a Brazilian artist based in Portsmouth. My practice explores feminist themes, women's experiences, identity, and silence, often drawing on her own lived experience.
I work across painting, marker pen, collage, digital illustration, soft sculpture and bookbinding. Although I often start with two-dimensional images, I also create three-dimensional and spatial work when the subject calls for it. Colour and the relationships between colours are a constant part of my visual language.
More recently, I have dedicated myself to artist's books, combining illustration, narrative, materials, and bookbinding. I conceive the artist's book both as a work of art and as a space to explore stories, ideas, and lived experiences. Currently, my aim is to develop this aspect of my practice through my artistic work and academic research.
